Telangana govt declares holiday on September 9 for Ganesha immersion day

Telangana government on Thursday declared that September 9 will be a general holiday in view of Ganesha idol processions in the twin cities, Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts of the state.

However, November 12, second Saturday, will be a working day as per the government order.

Meanwhile, all arrangements have been made for the immersion by the civic body officials. To prevent Plaster of Paris (PoP) idol immersion at Hussain Sagar, 12-km double layer barricades have been put up around the lake. Over 20,000 police personnel will be deployed during the immersion processions across the city, as per Tv9 Telugu.

Around 98 cranes have been deployed at almost all the immersion locations and watch towers would be put up to keep an eye out on the crowds.

The immersion will be held like it's done every year, as per GHMC officials. The final plan includes several Ganesh action teams (GAT), one team per every 3-4 km. Around a thousand people will be deployed by the HMDA to clear the remains of the idol and 122 drinking water camps have been set up.

Around 38 fire tenders and four boats will be stationed at Pragathi nagar, Saroor nagar lakes. Nine boats will be deployed at Hussain Sagar lake.

The electricity department will have 48 transformers up and running around Hussain Sagar and five around Saroornagar lake. The department will also install 101 transformers to light up the processions at a cost of Rs. 24.3 crore.
