Trees will be planted in an estimated four-block area on West Second Street that was impacted by the latest round of street improvement, but that work is likely to be spread out over several years, and the project will also likely use volunteer labor when the time comes.

The City Council of Webster City discussed the replacement of trees along the parking from Beach Street west to the railroad overpass after reviewing recommendations presented by John Haldeman, a civil engineer with Snyder & Associates.

The council, however, declined the Snyder suggestion that would have placed 23 trees along one block of parking in that area, with its attached $22,000 cost.

The council, acknowledging the expense, verbally agreed to find a way to stretch out the plantings and find ways to reduce the cost to the city.

The discussion is still active.

Also on Monday, the council agreed to close Des Moines Street in front of the Asbury United Methodist Church during a Rally Day Celebration, which will take place on Sept. 11, from 8 a.m to 1 p.m.

s It authorized an amendment to the USDA Revolving Loan Fund Reuse Plan;

s Approved change orders No. 4 and 5 to the 2021 Second StreetReconstruction Project with Rasch Construction, Inc., 1825 Johnson Avenue, Fort Dodge;

s Authorized the city manager to sign and execute Amendment No. 1 to Task Order No. 4 with DGR Engineering, Inc. for professional engineering services associated with Reisner Substation;

s Authorized the city manager to execute a purchase for a 1500 kva transformer from Sunbelt Solomon in the amount of $46,500 to restock the city’s electric utility inventory;

s Authorizedthe mayor to sign and execute agreement for ‘As Needed’ lawn mowing and snow removal services on city owned properties within the corporate limits of Webster City.
